MSc Midwifery Short Programme
Course overview
The two-year MSc Midwifery (Short Programme) at the University of Hull is specifically designed for adult nurses who are already registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and wish to train as midwives. The course is split 50/50: half the students' time is spent in clinical practice (working in hospitals/units), and the other half is in scheduled classes, ensuring they gain all the necessary skills.
Students will learn how to support mothers and babies throughout pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period, gaining confidence through practice at the £28-million Health Campus (which includes a simulated birthing unit and hospital ward) and through placements in local NHS Trusts. Students' performance is measured using a mix of theory assessments (like written assignments and exams) and practice assessments conducted continuously in clinical settings using the Midwifery Ongoing Record of Achievement (MORA) document.
