MSc Data Science for Public Policy and Politics

University of East Anglia UEA

Course overview

The MSc Data Science for Public Policy and Politics at the University of East Anglia is a one-year full-time master’s programme. Students will gain strong skills in data analysis, computing, statistics, and policy making. The course covers technical tools such as programming, big data modelling, natural language processing, and network analysis, and applies them to problems in politics, government, and public services. During the programme, students study core modules in data science, policy, political analysis, and research methods. They learn how to collect, process, and interpret big data related to public policy and political questions.

Students learn through lectures, seminars, labs, workshops, and project work. They practise programming, visualisation, statistics, and policy-analysis tasks. Assessment methods include written exams, reports, case studies, practical data science tasks, presentations, and the final dissertation project. The assessments expect students to apply both technical and policy knowledge. They also complete a major project or dissertation where they apply their data science skills to a real-world policy or political problem.
