MEng Mechanical Engineering
Course overview
The MEng Mechanical Engineering at the University of East Anglia (UEA) is a four-year, full-time undergraduate programme designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in engineering before progressing into advanced mechanical engineering specialisms.
In the first year, students follow an integrated engineering pathway covering mathematics, materials, manufacturing, and core engineering principles. From the second year onwards, the programme focuses on key mechanical engineering areas such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, design, manufacturing processes, and control systems, supported by access to modern engineering facilities and industry-linked project work.
The course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). In the final year, students complete a substantial individual project based on a real industrial brief, using UEA’s engineering laboratories to design, test, and present a professional engineering solution. Teaching is delivered through lectures, seminars, laboratory sessions, and design workshops, with assessment through examinations, lab reports, design reports, group work, and the final-year project, ensuring strong theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
