BSc Public Health and Community Wellbeing

University of Bradford

Course overview

The BSc Public Health and Community Wellbeing at the University of Bradford teaches how to understand health in real communities. The course looks at how housing, money, food, work, education, and local services shape health. It also explores why some groups face a higher risk of illness than others. Students learn how to plan small and large actions that support health, prevent disease, and improve well-being. The degree runs full-time over 3 years.

Students learn core topics like public health basics, disease and health across the lifespan, equality and inclusion in health, and population health. In the second year, there is a 100-hour placement where students apply learning in real settings, for example, community health services, councils, charities, or public health teams.

Final year includes advanced study on designing health interventions, global health issues, health data use, and promoting wellbeing in different populations. The course suits students who want to make a real difference in homes, schools, towns, and local groups. It gives a broad base in public health, health promotion, and social care. Teaching uses lectures, seminars, group work, practical activities, and placement work. Assessment includes essays, reports, presentations, case studies, and a health-improvement project in the final year.
