BSc Midwifery

The University of Bedfordshire BSc Midwifery course is highly practical, with half of the study time dedicated to practical experience in clinical placements. In this course, students will gain experience caring for women and birthing people throughout pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period, including assisting with at least 40 supervised births. 

The programme runs for 39 weeks each year, preparing students comprehensively for professional practice. Learning involves classroom theory, roleplay, and scenario-based training, all designed to integrate seamlessly with clinical practice. This approach allows students to directly apply classroom knowledge to develop their clinical skills in real-world settings. 

Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible to register as midwives with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement. In this statement, they should discuss their reasons for applying for the course and provide other relevant information regarding their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students will undergo an interview, a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and occupational health screening before admission.

Grade Requirements: 

• Applicants typically need 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of three A-levels or equivalent qualifications such as BTEC Extended Diploma (DDM), T Levels, or the International Baccalaureate.
• Equivalent international qualifications are also accepted.

English Proficiency: 

• Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four sections (reading, writing, listening, and speaking). 
• Equivalent English language qualifications, such as TOEFL or PTE, are also accepted.

For international students, the tuition fee for the University of Bedfordshire BSc Midwifery is £16,900 per year.

The University of Bedfordshire provides various scholarships and bursaries to support students, and they include general university scholarships as well as potential government training grants for UK midwifery students. The training grant for UK students is at least £5,000 per year and is non-repayable.

Upon successful completion and registration with the NMC, graduates can pursue various rewarding careers in midwifery. Potential job titles include:
