BSC Forensic Psychology

University of Bedfordshire

Course overview

The University of Bedfordshire’s BSc Forensic Psychology trains students to use psychological principles and knowledge in the legal system to answer legal questions, involving areas like psychological testing, assessment of competency, and providing expert testimony in court. This course is for students who want to apply the understanding of human behaviour in the legal system (to study criminals), either through partnerships with armed officials, interrogation of criminals, or gathering facts at crime scenes.

In this programme, students will deal with case studies where their critical thinking skills and understanding of theories help to address legal issues. They will also learn clinical psychology, social psychology, legal theory, and may work in courtrooms, prisons, correctional centres, and schools. Students learn modules like police psychology, investigative psychology, criminal psychology, correctional psychology, and legal psychology.

Graduates are equipped with the skills to work with prosecutors, defence attorneys, and public defenders to determine whether a defendant is mentally stable or not to stand trial.

Learning in this course is through lectures, laboratory work, conferences, group discussions, and tutorials. Assessment methods include presentations, assignments, examinations, formative essays, and a final-year project.
