MArch Master of Architecture

Course Overview

The MArch Master of Architecture at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) is a postgraduate program that goes beyond traditional architectural education. It is designed for students who already hold an undergraduate architecture degree and want to take their design, creative, and critical thinking skills to a professional level. This course focuses on sustainability, innovation, and cultural awareness in the built environment. Students explore both traditional and new ways of building, designing, and thinking about space. This course prepares future architects to solve real-world problems and contribute to the global design conversation.

This two-year full-time program builds on your existing knowledge of architecture and expands your ability to work independently, think creatively, and apply advanced design principles. You will develop your own architectural voice through studio work, research, and critical reflection. The program includes hands-on model-making, 3D design, sustainable construction, and architectural theory. You’ll learn from industry professionals and academic staff who are active researchers, bringing the latest insights into the classroom. You also have the chance to work on real design projects that address environmental and societal challenges.

The learning approach is studio-based, supported by workshops, lectures, tutorials, seminars, and field trips. You’ll also be working on design projects throughout the course, using the latest digital tools and technologies, including BIM and CAD software. Assessment methods include design portfolios, written essays, group work, presentations, and a final thesis project. Your final project will be a significant piece of design research where you demonstrate your ability to think independently and design boldly.
