PhD Regenerative Medicine

Swansea University

Course overview

Regenerative medicine at the Medical School is modern research that aims to improve healthcare by using stem cells, tissue engineering, and biomaterials to fix or substitute damaged body parts. The PhD programme offers practical, skill-based learning where students are guided by a supervision team and learn from the wider academic group through seminars and workshops.

Students gain access to Wales' premier, purpose-built medical research centre and work closely with industry and business partners, which helps to improve their professional skills. The Medical School is an acclaimed research hub, demonstrating successful teamwork between the NHS, universities, and businesses in the life science sector. The programme's primary assessment is the submission of a final, comprehensive research thesis, which is then followed by a viva voce (oral) examination.

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required, which can be provided on official letterhead or via the University’s reference form. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.
