Staffordshire University

Course overview

A BArch (Hons) Architecture degree from Staffordshire University is a 3-year programme that gives its students the opportunity to explore design and its practice. It uses Stoke-on-Trent as its testbed for architecture. The course combines elements of fine art, engineering, and materials science to provide a well-rounded Architectural education. Students study how buildings function, working in renewable energy labs on solar panels and producing models using 3D printing and specialist facilities. Many benefit from the University’s partnerships with architectural practices, which offer opportunities for work experience.

Learning is done in studio practice supported by lectures, seminars, technical skills workshops, and independent study, and assessment includes portfolios, sketchbooks, technical exercises, written reports, and group presentations. Modules such as Design and Presentation, Material, Environment and Technology, and Critical Research will be covered throughout the programme.

The course is prescribed by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) at Part 1 level, allowing graduates to register in the UK, and also validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) at Part 1 level, providing eligibility for RIBA membership.
