BSc International Business Management with Foundation

Solent University (Southampton)

Course overview

This four-year degree programme, which includes a preparatory foundation year, is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). It is designed to equip students for success in the global commercial arena. The foundation year provides an essential academic base for students who do not meet the direct entry requirements, strengthening their core knowledge and study skills. Students who complete the foundation year automatically progress onto the three-year Honours degree programme.

The course uses a hands-on approach, such as playing roles in business situations, writing reports about real work, and looking closely at case studies, to help students apply their international business skills. Students are usually assessed through a combination of written coursework, presentations, and written exams. The course also teaches students to think independently, solve problems, and understand how to run a business in a healthy way for people and the planet. There may also be a chance to go and study in another country or get work experience abroad.

Entry requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information about their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants for the foundation year of this programme typically require 48 UCAS Tariff points. This score should generally be achieved from a minimum of two completed A-levels, a BTEC Extended Diploma at a grade of PPP, or a BTEC Diploma at a grade of MP, or equivalent qualifications.

  • Consideration is also given to mature students who lack formalised A-level qualifications but have relevant professional or voluntary experience.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds are required to demonstrate their English language competency for entry onto the foundation programme.

  • This is often achieved by submitting an overall score of IELTS 6.0 in the Academic test, with no individual section score below 5.5, or presenting equivalent test results from a recognised Secure English Language Test (SELT).
