MComp Computer Science

Nottingham Trent University

Course overview

The MComp Computer Science at Nottingham Trent University is a 4-year degree that combines undergraduate and master’s level study. In the first year, students learn the fundamentals of programming, algorithms, data structures, software engineering, and computer systems. In the later years, they take advanced modules in topics such as cloud computing, embedded systems, security, AI, robotics, and information systems. The final (master’s) year gives students the chance to do specialist modules and a major project with depth and originality. This course is designed to prepare students for high-level roles in tech and research.

This programme is conducted by the Department of Computer Science in the School of Science and Technology. It is offered full-time over four years. This MComp course is accredited by BCS (British Computer Society) for CITP status and contributes to the Chartered Engineer (CEng) track. The master’s year adds extra specialisation in security, embedded systems, management, robotics, and cloud computing. Students learn through lectures, lab classes, workshops, tutorials, projects, and self-study. Practical work is a key part: writing code, building systems, testing, and debugging. Assessment uses exams, coursework, lab reports, project deliverables, presentations, and the final project.
