BSc Forensic Science with foundation year
Course overview
The BSc Forensic Science (with foundation year) at Nottingham Trent University is a four-year programme. The first year helps students build skills in chemistry, biology and maths. After that, students move into the honours Forensic Science degree. They study crime scene methods, evidence analysis, toxicology, DNA, ballistics, forensic chemistry and legal aspects. Students also use real labs and crime scene training facilities. This programme is accredited by the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences.
The foundation year gives the theoretical and practical base needed for advanced forensic topics. In years 2 to 4, students take modules such as crime scene investigation, forensic biology, forensic chemistry, ethics and law, digital forensics, and a final research project. The honours years also include work placement opportunities and chances to study abroad. Students learn through lectures, seminars, lab practicals, workshops, casework and project work. They collect and analyse real or simulated crime evidence in labs and crime scene settings. Assessments include written exams, lab reports, essays, case study assignments, group projects and a final honours project.
