MEng Mechanical Engineering

Course Overview

The MEng Mechanical Engineering programme at London South Bank University focuses on the technological aspects of engineering and the development of new techniques and tools that will solve real-world problems. It equips students with the skills to succeed in sectors such as energy, transport, aviation, robotics, pharmaceuticals and the motor or marine industries. After completing the programme, graduates achieve the status of Chartered Engineer (CEng).

This programme covers learning modules including thermofluids and dynamics, design and practice, solid mechanics, electrical engineering, and materials modelling. The curriculum deepens students’ technical knowledge and helps them to excel in different sectors, such as energy, transport and aviation.

Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical work, and group and individual projects. The assessment is through coursework and exams, with projects and laboratory work counting toward the award of a degree. Students will adapt theoretical principles to solve real-world engineering problems.

London South Bank University is a public university located in the middle of London, England. It was founded in 1892 and achieved university status in 1992 under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992. Ever since, LSBU has been providing practical education to the public.

Entry Requirements for Indian Students

Interested applicants are to submit a personal statement explaining their interest in the course and any academic or professional experiences. A reference letter from a relevant academic or employer is required. A CV can be uploaded to show relevant work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants typically require 136-144 UCAS tariff points (A-level grades AAB).
  • Other qualifications in relevant fields are considered.

English Proficiency:

  • Non-English language speaking applicants need an overall IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each element component. Accepted alternatives include PTE or TOEFL.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for this course is £15,500 per year for international students. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and may change.

Scholarships

LSBU offers scholarships to international students to support them financially. The Vice Chancellor’s International Merit Award, worth up to £2,000 for each academic year, recognises outstanding academic achievement of students obtaining grades equivalent to AAB and above. There are other scholarships available to eligible international students.
