BSc Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management

Course Overview

This Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management BSc (Hons) course at Coventry University trains students on how to measure, plan, and manage costs and contracts in construction projects. It covers quantity surveying (measuring building work), cost estimating, procurement (buying goods and services), contracts, costing refurbishment and maintenance, and value management. Students learn both traditional methods and digital tools for quantification and cost control.

Live or recent projects are used to apply learning in real-life settings. The course is accredited by CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building), which helps students to achieve professional status, and move into industry roles. The standard route is three years full-time at the Coventry campus. There are optional features such as a work placement year and study abroad. The course is designed to meet employment needs. Coventry has strong links with industry, with RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) involved. That means modules are designed with advice from practitioners.

Students are taught through lectures, seminars, workshops, labs and real-project work. Students also visit sites and work with case studies. Assessment includes written reports, project work, presentations, exams, group assignments and a final research or dissertation project. Feedback is regular to help improve.
