PhD Law, Policing, and Criminal Justice
Course overview
This PhD course allows students to do deep, new research in areas like Criminology, Forensic Investigation, Law, and Policing. You will work on a research project, leading to a big written paper (thesis), with help from expert teachers. The course usually takes three years if you study full-time, or five years if you study part-time, with options to take longer if needed.
The programme also includes required training to help students become better researchers and learn useful skills for many jobs. Students can use special places like the Hydra Suites, the Augustine House Library, and dedicated forensic labs. Many students start this course as an MPhil (a shorter research degree) and then switch to the PhD programme once their research is going well.
Entry requirements
Applicants will need to write a personal statement. This is a letter where they explain why they want to do this course and share important things about their education. They will also need a reference letter from a teacher or someone they have worked for. Candidates can choose to send their CV (a document showing their work history) with their application to show their experience. It's also a very good idea to talk about your research ideas with a potential supervisor before you apply.
Grade Requirements:
- You will need a good first university degree and a good Masters degree in a related subject like Law, Policing, Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Forensic Investigation.
- For some international students, a two-year Masters degree or a one-year Masters degree from a recognised university might be accepted.
English Proficiency:
- If English is not your main language, you will need to get a total score of 6.5 in the IELTS English test. This means your combined score for all parts of the test should be 6.5.
- In this IELTS test, students must not score lower than 6.5 in any single part, like reading, writing, listening, or speaking.
