BSc Biochemistry Immunology

Course Overview

The BSc Hons in Biochemistry & Immunology is a joint Honours degree that combines the study of cellular function at a molecular level with the study of the body's defence against disease. This course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology and is highly ranked for Biological Sciences in the UK. The degree has a flexible structure, allowing students to switch to other Biomolecular Science courses during their first two years.

Assessment for the course is conducted through a variety of methods. The first two years focus on foundational knowledge and practical skills, with a module dedicated to becoming a biomolecular scientist, which covers laboratory work, data analysis, and ethics. The final two years involve specialisation in Biochemistry and Immunology, including an original research project, presentations, and report writing. Students can also take part in enterprise projects or study abroad.

Entry Requirements for Egyptian Students

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement where they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students can upload a CV with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • A Levels: BBB (including two science subjects, with at least one being Biology or Chemistry).
  • Scottish Highers: AABB or AAAC (with Chemistry B, Biology/Human Biology B, and Maths and English National 5 B).
  • International Baccalaureate: 30 points (including Biology HL5 and Chemistry HL5, with Maths SL5 and English SL5).

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need an overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 5.5.

Cost of Study

The international tuition fee for the BSc Hons Biochemistry & Immunology course is £27,800 per year.

Scholarships

The University of Strathclyde offers several scholarships for international students in the Faculty of Science, with awards of between £5,000 and £7,000 available. These are given on a competitive basis to applicants who show excellent academic performance. Another notable scholarship is the Strathclyde Excellence Scholarship, which is merit-based and can be valued at up to £9,250. Students can also be eligible for Scotland's Saltire Scholarships, a government programme worth £8,000 for students from certain countries.
