BEng Civil Environmental Engineering

Course Overview

The BEng Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde is a four-year, full-time undergraduate programme. The course combines civil engineering and environmental engineering. Students will learn how to build structures, construct roads, manage water, treat waste, reduce pollution, and improve the environment. Learning is done through lectures, project work, design projects, lab work, field trips, and a mentoring programme.

Students are assessed individually and in groups. Some of the assessment methods include coursework, lab reports, design submissions, and projects. The programme is accredited by professional bodies such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT), and the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE).

Entry Requirements for Egyptian Students

International students who wish to study BEng Civil & Environmental Engineering at Strathclyde should submit transcripts or a certificate of previous qualifications. They also need to submit a personal statement, academic references (via UCAS), and proof of identity.

Grade Requirements:

  • The standard entry requirement is an A in Mathematics and an A or B in one Science subject. The minimum requirement is a B in Mathematics or another Science subject. This is in high school (called Highers in Scotland) or the equivalent in your country.
  • For A-level, students need a B in Mathematics and one Science subject for year one. For year two, they need an A in both.
  • For the International Baccalaureate (IB), applicants need 34–32 points with 5 in Mathematics and one Science subject for year one. For year two, they need 36–34 points with 6 in both.
  • For HNC or HND in Civil, Structural, or Construction Engineering, an A in the Graded Unit is needed for year one. An A and a B in the Graded Units are needed for year two.

English Proficiency:

  • International students whose first language is not English will need to provide proof of their English ability by having at least a 6.0 overall score in IELTS.
  • Those who do not meet the English requirement can take the English Language Teaching courses.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for this course for international students is £29,350 every year. There may be additional costs. This fee is subject to review by the university every year.

Scholarships

There are scholarships and funding available for international students who study BEng Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. They include funding to cover part of the tuition and also reduce the cost of living. Some of them include the Emergency Aid Fund, Housing Support Fund, and the Mature Students Hardship Fund.
