BA Media and Communications
Course overview
The BA Media and Communications course at the University of Sussex helps students learn how people understand and use media in the modern digital world. This includes studying things like online cultures, how media technology systems (infrastructures) work, and how media connects people globally.
This course is designed to be flexible and considers a student’s own background and what they want to do for a job. Students learn from experienced teachers in a welcoming and forward-thinking environment. They will also make good contacts with people in the UK’s busy media industries. Importantly, they will learn the skills needed to find jobs in communications today, even with the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Students will connect their classroom learning to real-life work by collaborating with companies and community groups. They will also take trips (field trips) to see how the things they learn work in the real world. During the course, students will create a professional portfolio that demonstrates their skills in thinking deeply, finding information, creating content, and communicating clearly.
When students finish the course, they will be smart, adaptable, and creative communicators. They will be prepared to work confidently in many different careers, such as public relations (PR), speaking for a cause (advocacy), and larger media and culture jobs.
