MSc Bridge Engineering

Course Overview

The MSc Bridge Engineering at the University of Surrey is a specialist postgraduate programme, unique in Europe and one of the few globally. It provides advanced knowledge in the analysis, design, construction, and management of bridges. The course develops skills across the full lifespan of bridge structures, from design to end-of-life management.

The programme is suitable for both new graduates and experienced engineers. Core modules include Prestressed Concrete Bridge Design and Durability of Bridges and Structures. A two-year full-time option is available, allowing students to complete an industrial placement year and gain valuable hands-on experience in design consultancies or contractor firms.

Entry Requirements for Pakistani Students

Applicants must submit a personal statement and a relevant academic and/or employer reference. A CV can also be uploaded to demonstrate relevant work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • A first degree equivalent to at least a UK second class (2.2) honours degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering subject.
  • Candidates with at least five years of relevant industrial experience, preferably in codified design, may also be considered.

English Proficiency:

  • IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in Writing and 5.5 in Reading, Listening, and Speaking.
  • Equivalent tests such as TOEFL or PTE Academic are accepted.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for international students is £24,900. Fees are subject to change annually.

Scholarships

The University of Surrey offers various scholarships and bursaries for postgraduate taught students. This includes a 20 per cent discount on taught master's programme fees for University of Surrey graduates. Additionally, international fee-paying students who pay their deposit within 10 days of receiving an offer may be eligible for an automatic £2,000 early payment discount.
