EngD Micro- and NanoMaterials and Technologies

The EngD Micro- and NanoMaterials and Technologies (MiNMaT) at the University of Surrey is a four-year advanced study programme. It is for researchers who want to become important leaders in the industry. This degree combines advanced research with classroom lessons. It is designed to give students the specialised knowledge and skills they need for a career in technology and management. Students will be intellectually challenged, developing crucial research and management skills, and becoming experts in the field of micro- and nanomaterials.

The main feature of the EngD MiNMaT is the strong connection with real companies. Students will have the opportunity to work closely with one of the university’s industrial partners on a unique, industrially relevant research problem. Most of the research will be conducted at the students’ sponsor’s premises, giving them valuable experience in a fast-paced commercial environment. Students will be guided by a minimum of two academic staff and at least one industrial supervisor. This supervision structure ensures students receive a wealth of experience and expertise, developing them into an independent, 'industry-ready' graduate.

Grade Requirements:

• Applicants are expected to hold a first or upper second-class (2:1) degree in a relevant discipline.
• A lower-second (2:2) class degree plus a good master's degree (distinction normally required) is also accepted.

English Proficiency:

• International students are to show proficiency in English by having an IELTS overall score of 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each component.
