BSc Prosthetics and Orthotics
Course overview
The BSc Prosthetics and Orthotics at the University of Salford is a 3-year undergraduate degree that equips students with the skills to assess and treat individuals needing prosthetic and orthotic care. This study combines two related fields: prosthetists provide artificial limbs to assist people who have lost a part of or a whole limb. Orthotists provide braces and splints to support, correct, or aid the function of individuals with various conditions of the neurological, muscular, and skeletal systems. Students will gain a wealth of skills and expertise in biomechanics, human movement, and gait analysis, and learn how to provide artificial limbs, braces, and splints to suit the needs of people with various conditions.
Students of prosthetics and orthotics are taught hands-on clinical practice while working with patients in our custom-designed clinic rooms equipped with the latest tools and facilities that will enhance their studies and personal development. Students will be taught through tutorials, practical sessions, problem-based learning, clinical placements, group discussion, and self-directed study. Students will be assessed by essays, projects, written and Viva exams, clinical assessments, and portfolios
