MSc Risk, Crisis and Resilience Management

Course Overview

The MSc Risk, Crisis and Resilience Management degree at the University of Portsmouth is designed to enhance students’ existing skills and develop their expertise in managing critical situations. The one-year master's programme prepares graduates to guide organisations through complex situations as professional risk managers. 

Accredited by the Institute of Risk Management (IRM), the course equips students with the ability to identify, assess, and manage both organisational and technical risks, while promoting a people-focused approach to risk management. The teaching methods include a mix of lectures, seminars, workshops and simulations. Assessment is conducted through presentations, dissertations and case study work.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to submit a personal statement outlining their motivation for applying to the course and any other relevant academic or professional information. A suitable academic and/or employer reference must also be provided. Additionally, students may choose to upload their CV as part of the application to highlight their work experience. Equivalent professional experience and qualifications will also be considered, such as previous study, employment, voluntary work and training courses, including courses and qualifications not completed.

Grade Requirements: 

A second-class honours degree or equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications.

English Proficiency:

Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) with no component score below 6.0.

Cost of Study

For the 2025/26 academic year, international students enrolled in the full-time MSc Risk, Crisis and Resilience Management programme will pay £17,900 in tuition fees.

These scholarships are often awarded based on academic excellence in previous studies.
