University of Kent

Course overview

The MSc Sport and Exercise Science (by Research and Thesis) at the University of Kent is a research‑led master’s degree in the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences. It is built around a major, original research project. Undergraduates or graduates interested in developing in-depth expertise in a particular field of sport science can contribute new knowledge while acquiring strong research skills. This course involves working closely with academic staff to design and carry out a significant investigation into a topic in sport and exercise sciences. Students choose ambitious projects across a variety of areas such as exercise physiology, psychology, biomechanics, rehabilitation, and health.

The University provides a supportive research environment, including access to Kent’s Graduate and Researcher College for training in research methods and professional development. Kent’s facilities are very well-resourced. Learning is primarily through independent research, supervised by experienced academics. Students learn to plan, conduct, analyse, and report a research project. Assessment comes through the thesis, a substantial piece of original work, rather than coursework.
