MSc Cognitive Psychology and Neuropsychology

University of Kent

Course overview

The MSc Cognitive Psychology and Neuropsychology at the University of Kent is a full-time Master’s degree that focuses on understanding how the brain supports everyday thinking, including memory, attention, language, perception, and decision-making. The course also explores what happens when the brain is damaged or develops differently, such as following a stroke or head injury, or in conditions like dementia and dyslexia.

Teaching is delivered through a mix of weekly lectures, small-group seminars, practical laboratory classes, and computer-based workshops. Students gain hands-on experience using specialist equipment such as EEG machines, eye-trackers, and experimental psychology software. Class sizes are kept small, allowing for close interaction with academic staff and plenty of opportunity for discussion and questions.

Assessment is entirely coursework-based, with no final examinations. Students complete lab reports, essays, research proposals, oral presentations, and group projects. The largest piece of work is the dissertation, where you conduct and write up your own research project on a topic chosen with your supervisor. By the end of the programme, you will have highly valued skills suitable for careers in research, clinical settings, or industry.
