PhD Psychology research degrees
Course overview
The PhD Psychology Research Degrees at the University of Hull is a pure research programme that combines independent investigative work with structured training. Students will spend either three years full-time or six years part-time conducting research under supervision, followed by a writing-up phase to complete their thesis. For full-time students, the writing-up phase can last up to 12 months; part-time students may have up to 24 months for finalising their thesis.
During their research, students write a maximum of 100,000-word doctoral thesis on a topic agreed upon with a supervisor. They also complete a minimum of 60 credits of research training modules, offered through the Doctoral College’s PGR Development Programme. Assessment is primarily through the thesis; feedback is given by supervisors, and progression is monitored accordingly. Additional support is provided through the PGR Development Programme, which helps build professional and academic research skills.
