Course overview

The University of Greenwich MSc Sustainable Building Design and Engineering prepares students with the Engineering and Technical Design skills needed for careers in the growing sustainable construction sector. The programme focuses on both passive measures, such as optimisation of building fabric, and active systems, like building services and renewable energy technologies, to deliver sustainable built environments. Key modules to be taught include Sustainable and Healthy Buildings, Building Simulation and BIM, and environmental and passive design systems.

The course is taught at the Greenwich Campus, runs full-time over 1 year, and has been developed in alignment with recent research on technical, behavioural, and social issues in sustainable built-environment design.

Teaching comprises lectures, seminars, and workshop sessions, supported by independent learning with a typical intake size of 20-30 students. At the same time, assessment is varied and includes coursework, practical assessments, portfolio submission, oral presentations, and examinations.
