MSc Advanced Computing Science
Course overview
The MSc Advanced Computing Science at the University of East Anglia (UEA) is a one-year full-time (or two-year part-time) master’s degree. It offers students advanced skills in computing science, programming languages, compilers, artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, and computer vision. The programme immerses students in both theory and hands-on work, culminating in a major individual research project. In the first part of the course, students cover core topics such as programming language paradigms, high-performance computing, system optimization, and software testing.
They move into specialist modules where they explore research-led topics in depth, such as machine learning, cyber security, or computer vision. Students are supervised on a substantial project that allows them to apply their skills to a real problem. The part-time option extends the same content over two years. Students learn through lectures, seminars, labs, tutorials, and project work. They will write code, test systems, analyse performance, and use modern research tools. Assessment includes written exams, coursework, programming tasks, lab work reports, and the final project. The project is key to showing mastery of the subject.
