LLB Law English NI with French
Course overview
This three-year LLB Law (English/NI) with French at the University of Dundee gets students ready to work as a lawyer in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland, and also in other countries that use common law, such as Canada. The course gives them the main legal knowledge they need to start working. It puts together a complete law degree with learning the French language.
Students will take one French class every three months (semester), and classes are open to both people who are new to French and those who have studied it before. The degree prepares them for the first part of the lawyer's exam (SQE Stage 1) in England and Wales. It is also an approved step towards training to become a lawyer in Northern Ireland.
Students are taught mainly through lectures and tutorials, along with group work, debates, and independent study sessions. Learning is strongly focused on developing practical skills like research, analysis, problem-solving, and clear communication. The university's Academic Skills Centre helps with studying, and specialist career advice is included in the course. Teachers are experts in their subjects and research, and many have practical experience working in the legal field.
