University of Derby

Course overview

The MSc Clinical Exercise Science at the University of Derby will prepare you for a rewarding career in this crucial and growing field. The role of the clinical exercise scientist is increasingly important, particularly following the focus on population health highlighted by the Covid-19 pandemic and the UK Government's recognition of the need for collaboration between clinical exercise sciences and the NHS.

This Master's programme focuses on developing your understanding of human function and behaviour so you can improve people's health outcomes and quality of life. It’s designed to prepare you for job opportunities in clinical rehabilitation, clinical exercise physiology, and health and wellbeing.

The MSc Clinical Exercise Science from the University of Derby covers three main topics: how to help people get better (rehabilitation and training), how exercise helps health (physical activity and health), and the science behind exercise in a clinic (clinical exercise physiology). You will gain important experience by doing a placement in a clinical setting. This means you will use your skills in a real workplace. You will also do your own research project on a topic you find interesting, working with professors who are experts in this science.
