Course overview
The BSc Artificial Intelligence and Data Science with Foundation Year at the University of Derby enables students to develop foundational skills in mathematics and data analysis, combined with practical experience in performing analyses and extracting meaningful insights from data. They will also learn the fundamentals of AI, including how to construct AI systems and models, and apply these concepts and techniques to real-world industrial and business scenarios.
The Foundation Year offers students the chance to strengthen their skills, knowledge, and confidence – with extensive support from expert staff, before they advance to the honours degree. It could also be beneficial if they are planning a career change and want to get to grips with aspects of subjects that are new to them.

Entry requirements
Interested candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.
Grade Requirements:

Applicants are expected to have 72 UCAS tariff points obtained through A-levels at DDD or equivalent qualifications. Other qualifications include the International Baccalaureate and the BTEC Extended Diploma.
English Proficiency:

Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds usually need an overall IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four components.

Alternatively, equivalent qualifications like PTE and TOEFL are also accepted.

Two awards of £1,000 are available, and will be awarded as a tuition fee reduction in the second semester. Each recipient will also be allocated up to £500 to use to attend a conference.
