BA Marketing with Foundation Year

Course Overview

The BA Marketing with Foundation Year at the University of Derby is a programme that lasts four years. It starts with a one-year foundation course, which helps students build a strong understanding of basic business and marketing concepts. This is especially helpful for those who don’t meet the usual entry requirements for the full degree. After the foundation year, students move on to the three-year marketing degree or choose other related disciplines.

During the foundation year, students learn the basics of business management and how modern trends have shaped the way businesses work today. They gain skills in communication, decision-making, and analysing both quantitative and qualitative data. Tools like Excel and similar software are introduced to help students work with numbers and information effectively.

Throughout the programme, students study a combination of core and optional modules. In the foundation year, they study business trends, communication, and data handling. The later years cover areas such as advertising, branding, digital marketing, and public relations. In their final year, students work on independent projects to improve their research and problem-solving skills. Students are assessed through individual assignments, group work, presentations, and creative tasks like making advertisements or infographics.
