BA Youth Work Community Practice with Foundation Year

University of Lancashire

Course overview

This four-year programme begins with a foundation year for students who need extra study skills or do not have the normal academic scores for degree entry. The foundation year aims to build confidence and give students the study skills needed to succeed at a degree level, with modules focusing on understanding individuals, families, and communities.

Upon completing the foundation year, you move on to the main degree to become a qualified Youth and Community Worker with a nationally recognised professional qualification (JNC). The full course is highly practical, featuring over 800 hours of placement work across all three degree years in local organisations, preparing you completely for a career in the field.

Entry requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information about their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • The minimum requirement to enter the foundation year is to achieve 64 UCAS points from A-Level studies or equivalent qualifications.

  • The university also considers your overall educational background, any predicted grades, and relevant work experience when deciding on your application.

English Language Requirements:

  • The university requires applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds to provide proof of their English language skills.

  • While the exact minimum IELTS score is not clearly stated on the foundation year page, students should check with the admissions team or assume a score of around 6.0 is expected for entry to a foundation course, or submit equivalent test scores.
