PhD Psychology

University of BuckinghamBuckingham, United Kingdom

Course overview

The PhD Psychology at the University of Buckingham is a high-level research qualification where students must complete a major, independent piece of research that makes an original contribution to knowledge in the field. Full-time students typically complete the programme in three years, while part-time study takes up to six years, with start dates available in September and January. Students are affiliated with one of the School of Psychology’s research centres, which focus on areas such as Cyber and Interpersonal Behaviour or Health and Relationships.

Assessment is based primarily on the final research thesis, which must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the subject area and the ability to critically evaluate evidence. Students are also required to attend Research Methods training sessions and meet regularly with their supervisors for academic guidance. All students begin with a probationary period and undergo their first formal annual review approximately 12 to 18 months after enrolment.
