Course overview

The Sheffield Hallam University MSc Pharmaceutical Analysis is a full-time programme that exposes the students to pharmaceuticals, including drug discovery through to manufacturing. It educates students on the use of the instruments needed to perform drug analysis and equips them to be skilled analytical scientists. The course focuses on modern methods and techniques of instrumental analysis, data analysis methods and statistics.

Students learn through lectures, seminars, interactive workshops, practical laboratory work and an independent research project. The students will acquire important skills such as scientific writing, researching data, and critical thinking. The course makes use of industry-standard equipment such as HPLC, NMR, and mass spectrometry suites.

Entry requirements

To be enrolled, you need to submit an online application that includes a personal statement, and an academic or employer reference is also needed. Students may upload a CV to show any work experience they have.

Grade Requirements:

  • You need at least a 2:1 honours degree in a relevant subject. However, candidates with a 2:2 are also encouraged to apply and will be considered individually.
  • The university will also consider applicants with other qualifications that show academic attainment or skills directly relevant to the course.

English Proficiency:

  • If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill, or a recognised equivalent like TOEFL.
