MSc Medical Bioscience

Course Overview

The MSc Medical Bioscience is a holistic course designed to develop theoretical and practical knowledge in cell and molecular biology, clinical microbiology, virology, and pharmacology. It applies this understanding to explore the causes and treatments of a lot of disease processes, including chronic, genetic, and infectious human diseases. Students investigate research areas such as diabetes, obesity, pulmonary hypertension, and Alzheimer's disease.

The programme has a strong emphasis on developing practical laboratory and research skills for professional environments through taught laboratory classes and an extended laboratory-based research project. The first Learning methods are student-centred, they include lectures, seminars, and practicals, supported by the Virtual Learning Environment.

Assessments include unseen examinations, class tests, essays, management reports, case studies, presentations, and group work, fostering transferable skills like problem-solving and critical thinking.

Entry Requirements for Pakistani Students

Applicants are required to submit a personal statement, academic or employer reference, and a detailed research proposal, with an optional CV, to show their suitability for the course.

Grade Requirements:

Applicants need a second-class UK honours degree (2:2 or equivalent) in a relevant biological science subject. Applicants who do not have qualifications but can demonstrate relevant work experience and/or credits from recognised professional bodies may be considered through the University's Recognition of Prior Learning scheme.

English Proficiency:

Applicants need an IELTS overall 6.0 with no element below 5.5. TOEFL Internet-based test with an overall score of 78 (with minimum element scores of reading 18, listening 17, speaking 20, writing 17). Pearson PTE Academic overall score of 54 (with no element less than 51). Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) with a minimum Grade C.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for the MSc Medical Bioscience programme for the 2025/2026 academic session is £16,200 per year.

Scholarships

Glasgow Caledonian University offers scholarships for international postgraduate students. For the MSc Medical Bioscience programme, previous scholarships have included awards of up to £4,500, which are deducted from tuition fees.
