LLB Law

Course Overview

The LLB Law programme at Edge Hill University is a 3-year full-time law degree that prepares students for a professional career in law. This programme provides insight into the English legal system, covering core areas such as criminal law, contract law, and public law, as well as developing key analytical, research, and communication skills while exploring how the law functions in real-world contexts. By engaging in legal debates, case studies, and critical discussions, students learn to understand the role of law in society and how it impacts individuals and communities.

Recognised as a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD), this course is carefully designed to include both theoretical and practical learning. Students study compulsory legal subjects such as tort law, EU law, human rights, land law, and equity and trusts, which are essential for students intending to pursue professional legal qualifications. In addition to core modules, there is a range of optional modules like family law, international law, legal ethics, and environmental law. This flexibility allows students to tailor their degree to match their career aspirations and personal interests.

Classes are taught in many ways, including lectures, small-group sessions, tutorials, workshops, and hands-on practice such as mock trials and moots (practice court arguments), while assessment is through different ways, including exams, essays, and group work. Teachers often use real-life cases to illustrate complex contexts, making lessons easier to understand and more fun. In the final year, each student is required to pick a topic and write a dissertation showing what they have learnt.
