Brunel University London

Course overview

The Brunel University London Chemical Engineering PhD programme provides opportunities for extensive study aimed at solving important global problems in the 21st century. On this course, study topics cover many subjects, including energy systems, making processes digital, creating sustainable industrial systems, food systems, bioprocessing, and battery technologies.

This programme allows students to join one of the university's existing study projects or come up with and suggest their unique study idea. A PhD study mainly involves working independently on research, usually lasting three years for full-time students or up to six years for those studying part-time.

During the programme, students carry out in-depth research, with help from experienced university guides. This work includes writing a detailed study plan, doing experiments or computer modelling, carefully looking at information, and then writing a full dissertation. The degree is given based on the final written work and a viva voce, which is an oral test about the research.
