LLM Legal Practice

Course Overview

The LLM Legal Practice course at Birmingham City University is designed for graduates of different undergraduate courses who aspire to become qualified solicitors. The programme prepares students for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1) and offers opportunities to develop practical legal skills relevant to the SQE2 assessment.

Students will learn to apply critical legal knowledge and demonstrate competence in essential skills, such as client interviews, legal analysis, advocacy, case analysis, and work at the Law Clinic, as well as join the Mooting Society. The course combines academic learning with experience from real-world scenarios, including legal research and legal writing.

Entry Requirements

Those interested in this Master’s programme are to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant academic information. An educational and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CVs along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need at least a 2:2 Honours undergraduate Law Degree.
  • A different degree will be accepted if the student has enough relevant work experience in the legal field.

English Proficiency:

  • Non-English speakers need to score 6.5 overall in IELTS with at least 6.0 in each section.
  • Other English tests, like PTE, are also accepted.

Cost of Study

For full-time international students, the LLM Legal Practice programme starting in September 2025 tuition fee is £19,970 per year.
