Course overview

Our Computer Science with Foundation Year degree provides an alternative route into undergraduate study if, for example, you don’t have the necessary qualifications or cannot meet the entry requirements to begin the standard three-year degree. The additional foundation year provides an excellent introduction to studying a science subject at university, giving you a taste of learning at this higher level. On successful completion, you will join Year 1 of the BSc (Hons) Computer Science programme, which is accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for Information Technology.

BCS accreditation is the benchmark for quality in the technology industry. It not only enables you to pursue Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status on graduation, but you can also join as a student member. This enables you to connect with the IT community and build your professional network to give your career a head start.

On this Computing foundation year, you’ll develop essential academic skills, such as writing, communication and presentation. You’ll also learn how to conduct independent research, retrieving and analysing information from a range of primary and secondary sources. While studying the foundation year and throughout your degree studies, we place a strong emphasis on real-world learning, problem-solving and developing your professional and ethical conduct, equipping you with highly sought-after personal, practical and theoretical skills.
