MPharm Pharmacy
Course overview
The MPharm Pharmacy at Aston University, Birmingham, is a four-year course that trains you to become a pharmacist. It is approved by the GPhC, so you can register and work when you finish. You will learn how medicines are made, how they work, and how to advise patients. From the first year, you practise real pharmacy skills, such as talking to patients, checking prescriptions, and working with doctors and nurses. You train in proper mock hospital wards, counselling rooms with cameras, and modern labs. Real placements in pharmacies and hospitals start early and get bigger each year.
Teaching combines lectures, workshops, and lab sessions with interprofessional learning alongside nurses and doctors. You are assessed in lots of ways, including written exams, practical tests (like OSCEs where you show your skills), lab reports, group presentations, and short written reflections on what you’ve learned. When you graduate, you are ready for your paid pre-registration year and then a career as a pharmacist, either in a community or in a hospital.
