BA Computer Games Modelling and Animation With Foundation Year
Course overview
The BA Computer Games Modelling and Animation with Foundation Year at the University of Derby allows them to build the skills and knowledge they need to apply for a wide range of specialised 3D art roles. They will use software tools such as Maya, Photoshop, Substance, Unreal Engine 4, and ZBrush and have access to facilities equipped for game development with specialist equipment.
The Foundation Year provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to begin their academic and professional lives. It offers the opportunity to strengthen their skills, knowledge, and confidence, with support from the university's expert staff, before they progress to the honours degree.
Students will study three modules per semester, each delivered through a mixture of lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions where they will learn to work with Maya, Photoshop, and ZBrush. Assessment is 100% coursework through a mixture of group and individual assignments. In the final year, 25% of their assessment will be for a personal project.
Entry requirements
Interested candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Biomedical Science Excellence Scholarship
Two awards of £1,000 are available, and will be awarded as a tuition fee reduction in the second semester. Each recipient will also be allocated up to £500 to use to attend a conference.
