BSc Microbiology with foundation year and placement

University of Surrey

Course overview

The BSc Microbiology with a foundation year and placement at the University of Surrey starts with a foundation year, in which students build core knowledge in biological and chemical sciences, academic skills, and study techniques before progressing to the main BSc Microbiology programme. After the foundation year, students spend two years on campus following the Microbiology curriculum, studying microorganisms, molecular biology, microbial ecology, infection and immunology, and conducting laboratory work and research projects.

In the third or fourth year, depending on how the placement is integrated, students undertake a professional training placement with one of Surrey’s more than 2,300 partner organisations. Students are assessed through coursework, laboratory reports, exams, project work, and practical assessments.
