BSc Dental Hygiene and Therapy

The BSc Dental Hygiene and Therapy programme at the University of Suffolk, accredited by the General Dental Council (GDC), is a three-year full-time programme that prepares students to perform preventive oral care, such as scaling and polishing, taking dental X-rays, and providing dietary and hygiene advice to help patients maintain a healthy mouth.

The teaching method during this course involves a block and blend approach, with Year One concentrating on biomedical sciences and developing clinical skills, and the second year building on this foundation by introducing clinical placements and dental specialities. The final year emphasises technical and leadership skills, leading to an independent research project or dissertation.

To apply, students need to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. An academic and or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CVs along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements

• Students need 120 UCAS tariff points with grades like A levels at BBB, a DDM from a BTEC Extended Diploma, T levels or an Access to Higher Education Diploma in a related subject.

English Proficiency

• Students from non-English speaking countries need to demonstrate good English language skills by achieving an overall academic score of 7.0 on the IELTS test with at least 6.5 in each component.
