BSc Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management including Foundation Year

The University of South Wales offers a four-year version of its BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management degree. This version includes a Foundation Year and is for students who might not have the qualifications to start the three-year degree. The extra first year, the Foundation Year, helps students develop important academic skills and learn the basic technical knowledge needed for the course. You'll study subjects like the fundamentals of mathematics and get an introduction to how the construction industry works. This will provide you with a solid foundation before progressing to the main portion of the degree.

If you complete the Foundation Year, you will move on to the main part of the BSc (Hons) degree. This degree has received official recognition from two important professional organisations: the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors. You will learn about various topics, including how construction projects are built, how contracts are managed, and the importance of sustainability in the industry. The course also covers practical, industry-focused areas like how to calculate the total cost of a building over its lifetime, how to prepare cost estimates, and how to resolve disagreements that might arise on a project. Learning is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops, and practical projects. Assessment methods include coursework, examinations, and projects.

Grade Requirements

• Applicants need UCAS points of 48 or above. Other qualifications include A Levels at DD to exclude General Studies, or a BTEC Diploma Pass in a related field. Applicants can also qualify with a Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate at grade CC or an Access to HE Diploma Pass.
  

English Proficiency

• International candidates need an IELTS overall score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component/TOEFL 72 overall and a minimum of 18 in reading, 17 in listening, 20 in speaking, and 17 in writing.

International students opting for the BSc Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management (including Foundation Year) programme should expect to pay a tuition fee of £16,200 for the 2025-26 academic session.

The University of South Wales (USW) provides several financial awards to support international students enrolling in their undergraduate programmes for the 2025-26 academic year. These include the Chancellor's International Development Scholarship, offering £2,500 per year, and the International Office Scholarship, which can provide up to £1,500 for undergraduate students. The Early CAS Scholarship also provides a further £500 per year to students who complete their Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies early.
