MSc Quantity Surveying

Course Overview

The MSc Quantity Surveying at the University of Portsmouth is meant for people who want to become experts in construction efficiency and financial management. The programme is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), which means graduates meet high industry standards. It takes one year for full-time students to complete, and there is a two-year part-time option for those who need more flexibility.

This programme teaches important skills in construction, law, and finance and helps students prepare to become Chartered Quantity Surveyors. Core modules offered in the course include Construction Management and Safety, Development Design Project, Measurement and Tendering, and a dissertation.

Students will study current issues in the construction industry and practice their skills in real-world situations. They will also be assessed through exams, coursework, and the dissertation.

Entry Requirements

  • Candidates who may not fulfil the standard entry requirements are still encouraged to apply if they possess significant work experience and can show their potential to succeed academically in the programme.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need to have a second-class honours degree or a similar qualification in a technical or analytical field. Those with experience in property or construction, even if their background is not technical or analytical, will be considered.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants who do not speak English as a primary language must obtain a minimum overall score of 6.0 on the IELTS, ensuring that no individual skill section falls below 5.5.  Candidates who possess a degree from a UK institution, a degree from a predominantly English-speaking country (not obtained through Distance Learning), or are citizens of a majority English-speaking country are not required to meet these criteria.

Cost of Study

For the academic year 2025/26, international students enrolling in the University of Portsmouth MSc Quantity Surveying programme will be charged a tuition fee of £19,200. Please keep in mind that this fee might change from year to year.

Scholarships

At the University of Portsmouth, students can access a range of scholarships to make education more affordable. The Chancellor's Global Academic Merit Scholarship reduces first-year fees by £5,000 for high-achieving students, while the Vice Chancellor's Global Development Scholarship offers £2,500 off tuition for eligible candidates.

The Sanctuary Scholarship fully covers undergraduate tuition fees for asylum seekers and ensures additional support. International students can also benefit from Chevening Scholarships for Master’s programmes and Commonwealth Scholarships.
