BEng Robotics and Artificial Intelligence

Course Overview

The BEng Robotics and Artificial Intelligence course at the University of Portsmouth can be studied in two ways: full-time for three years, or as a four-year "sandwich" course which includes time working in a company. This course teaches students how to create intelligent and efficient apps, processes, and machines. It mainly focuses on using automated systems and machine learning in today's industries. Students will learn coding, how to use machine learning rules, and how to design actual robot systems to fix problems in different businesses.

The course also looks at the right and wrong sides of AI and robotics, and the maths involved. It shows the need to create technology in a careful and responsible way for areas like factories, government, research, and electricity. A very important part of learning is getting practical experience. Students use robotics kits and AI tools in computer labs, which helps them gain direct, useful skills.

About University

The University of Portsmouth aims to give its students a full and well-rounded learning experience. The university has modern buildings and equipment, like a new Robotics and Automation Laboratory that cost £5.8 million. It teaches using a "blended" approach, which means it combines different ways of learning.

The university also offers many types of help for its students. This includes personal tutors, teachers who help with learning, staff in the labs, tutors for academic skills, and support for mental health and general well-being. There is also help for students with disabilities, library assistance, and a Maths Café. On top of the engineering programme mentioned, the University of Portsmouth has many other courses for both first degrees and higher degrees across a wide range of study areas.
