Course Overview

The University of Portsmouth's Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical Power Engineering program focuses on designing and operating secure and sustainable power grids, combining scientific principles with technological advancements to develop expertise in modern electrical infrastructure.

This course prepares graduates for roles in the power engineering sector by focusing on innovations like electric vehicle charging, smart grids, and energy storage. The full-time course lasts three years, or four years with an optional work placement. Graduates are equipped to contribute positively to society.

The course combines face-to-face sessions, online activities, and independent study, with support from staff and a virtual learning environment. Practical skills are developed through lab work, projects, and field trips. Modules like "Group Design Project" and "Innovation and Enterprise" also help students build professional skills.

Entry Requirements for Egyptian Students

Candidates must submit a personal statement, academic or employer reference, and optionally, a CV to build a picture of their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Candidates need 112–120 UCAS Tariff points from two or three A-levels, which must include an important subject. 

English Proficiency:

  • Candidates need IELTS of 6.0 overall, with no component score below 5.5. 
  • TOEFL and PTE are also accepted.
  • If a student doesn't meet the English language requirements, they may be able to reach the necessary level by completing a pre-sessional English program before starting their main course.

Cost of Study

For international students, the fee for the September 2025 start is £19,200 per year.

Scholarships

The University of Portsmouth provides various scholarships for international students. This includes the Chancellor's Global Academic Merit Scholarship, which offers a £5,000 fee reduction for the first year of study based on academic merit for eligible applicants starting in September 2025. Additionally, the university offers the Vice Chancellor's Global Development Scholarship, providing a £2,500 fee reduction for the first year, as well as the EU Scholarship, which gives eligible EU, EEA, or Swiss nationals a £2,000 fee reduction for their first year, and in some cases, this can be combined with the Vice Chancellor's Global Development Scholarship. Also, the university's Sanctuary Scholarship is available for asylum seekers, covering full undergraduate tuition fees and providing ongoing support throughout their studies.
