MSc Cell Biology

University of Kent

Course overview

The MSc Cell Biology at the University of Kent is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time research-focused master's course. Students undertake a project done in a research laboratory, which is agreed upon with their supervisor. Research areas focus on biological processes at the molecular and cellular level, which include genetics, biochemistry, and biomedical research.

Learning is interactive and is done through seminars, workshops, and lab meetings in place of traditional lectures. Assessment is based on the research undertaken, and students acquire training in modern cross-disciplinary methods like confocal microscopy. This programme prepares them for PhD study or careers in industrial research.

Entry requirements

Candidates are to submit a personal statement in which they state their reasons for applying for the course and other information in relation to their studies. • Applicants must have at least a 2:2 Honours degree (Second Class, Lower Division) in a relevant biological science-related subject. • Applicants who are non-English speakers should score a minimum of 6.0 overall in IELTS (with 5.5 in each component) or submit equivalent English language test scores, such as a PTE Academic score of 63 with a minimum of 59 in each subtest.
