BSc Forensic Science With Foundation Year
Course overview
This four-year degree includes a Foundation Year, which provides them with the basic science knowledge and study skills they need before starting the main three-year degree. This course is completely approved (accredited) and prepares them for a career in one of the UK's fastest-growing areas. Students will learn core subjects, like Crime Scene Investigations, along with advanced topics such as DNA and Chromatography.
Learning is very hands-on (practical) and happens in excellent places, including a copy of a crime scene training area on campus and a blood spatter analysis room. Students are marked using a mix of written tests (including exams), assignments, and practical work like lab tasks and presentations, which helps them get skills they can use in the real world.
Entry requirements
Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and relevant information regarding their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CVs along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience, which is always welcomed.
Grade Requirements:
- This Foundation Year course is specially made for people whose previous school grades or experience mean they cannot start the main degree straight away.
- If students have Level 3 qualifications (like A-levels), they need at least 80 UCAS points. The University will also check to see if you are ready for university-level work, perhaps by asking you to write an essay or attend an interview.
English Language Requirements:
- Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds must provide official proof of their proficiency in English.
- The standard requirement for this programme is an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each skill (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).
- The University accepts its own Institutional test or a range of other qualifications as equivalent proof.
