MFOdont Forensic Odontology
Course overview
This advanced, two-year, full-time Master of Forensic Odontology (MFOdont) programme is delivered by the School of Dentistry. It is a highly specialised course focusing on the examination, handling, and legally robust presentation of dental evidence within the judicial system.
Core areas of study include dental identification and profiling, disaster victim identification (DVI) training, age estimation using dental evidence, and the legal considerations and limitations surrounding bite mark analysis.
The programme places strong emphasis on practical learning in state-of-the-art facilities, including the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID), where students work with Thiel-embalmed cadavers for specialised autopsy techniques. The second year focuses on an independent research project and advanced leadership training, preparing students to present and defend expert reports in a mock courtroom environment.
